Chris Samis - President

Chris Samis is a Chartered Accountant who began playing wheelchair basketball in 1984 and represented Canada in basketball at the Paralympics in Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992 and at the Gold Cup in Brugges in 1990 and in Edmonton in 1994. Chris first became a director of BC Wheelchair Basketball Society in 1994. Chris is also involved with the BC Cancer Foundation Investment Committee and the 2010 Games Operating Trust.

History of Wheelchair Basketball

Ross MacDonald - Vice President

Ross MacDonald began playing wheelchair basketball in BC as a junior program participant, moving to BC Games, Canada Games, BC-CWBL, Provincial Team and National Team levels of participation. Ross is also a certified NCCP wheelchair basketball coach, having graduated from the Douglas College Coaching Education Program. Ross currently works as the Sport Development Coordinator at SportAbility, the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association of B.C.

Aaron Wilson - Treasurer

Aaron Wilson works as the Director of Finance for Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver. He began his involvement with wheelchair basketball in November 2003 when he was nominated to the position of Treasurer. He brings a great skill set to the organization with his knowledge in this area. Aaron's sport involvement includes hockey and golf.

Lindsay Thom - Director at Large

Lindsay has been involved with BCWBS and BC Wheelchair Sports since early 2008 when she was selected to travel to the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games as the media attaché for Canada’s men’s and women’s national wheelchair basketball teams. With extensive experience in public relations and communications, Lindsay works in communications at the BC Innovation Council (BCIC). Prior to joining BCIC, she spent three years at the Rick Hansen Foundation as the PR & Media Relations Specialist enjoying two of her passions: communications and sport. Lindsay joined the board of BCWBS in fall 2009.

Bo Hedges – Director at Large

Bo Hedges began playing wheelchair basketball in 1995 by starting a team in Fort St. John. Bo moved to Prince George in 1998 to further his education at the University of Northern BC and continued playing there with the PG Titians, as well as making the senior men’s provincial team in 1999. He participated on the National Junior men’s team in 2001, received his Business Marketing Degree from UNBC in 2004, and then moved to Vancouver in 2006 seeking a better training setting. The move proved fruitful, as he made the Senior National team in 2007, and was a Silver Medallist in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Bo has been a great role model in BC to athletes both young and old. He is always willing to help the society and its members to grow, demonstrated in such positions as being a Division 1 league rep and mentoring athletes at various BCWBS events. Bo is currently on the national team and training for London 2012.

Andrew Greenlaw - Director at Large

Andrew Greenlaw joined the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society Board of Directors in the Fall of 2007. Andrew's prior wheelchair basketball involvement with Variety Village as an assistant coach and player along with his professional experiences with IMG Canada, Paralympics Ontario and Vancouver 2010 and volunteer experiences such as the 2003 Pan American Games and 2004 Paralympic Games have provided him with diverse background to make him a great member of our board.

Ken Wind - Director at Large

Ken Wind is a business analyst for the TD Bank who sits on the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society’s Board of Directors as the Finance Director. Ken’s involvement with the BCWBS started in 2008 as a Director at Large. Ken has a diverse background which centers around Banking and Business Management and he provides a perspective that is business orientated. Ken is also a National Ambassador for the Rick Hansen Foundation and does public speaking engagements on their behalf.
