Eleven athletes named to roster for the 2018 Junior National Championships.
March 13, 2018 (Vancouver BC) BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is pleased to announce the 11 athletes who will be representing Team BC at the 2018 Junior National Championships starting later this week in Longeuil, Quebéc. The event is hosted by Parasports Quebéc.
Members of Team BC includes Joel Ewert (Prince George), Thomas Venos (Coquitlam), Ben Garrett (Abbottsford), Ben Hagkull (Chilliwack), Matthew Norris (Maple Ridge), Lannette Boland (Pender Island), Ryleigh Bissenden (Victoria), Tanner Jung (Langley), Joel Aukema (Langley), Nicholas Van Bakel (Pender Island) and Gabriel Harrison (Pender Island). The team will be led by Head Coach Simon Cass (Victoria) and Assistant Coach Kelly Harris (Nanaimo). Many members of Team BC are coming off the 2018 BC Games in Kamloops.
"Junior Nationals are an important tournament in the overall development of Team BC athletes in wheelchair basketball", states Cass. "This 2018 tournament will act as a seeding event for the Canada Games next February".
The 2019 Canada Winter Games are scheduled for February 2019 in Red Deer, Alberta. The Junior National Championships, which are hosted every four years, run from March 16 -18, 2018. Team BC finished in fourth place in the 2014 Junior Nationals in Edmonton.
