Comox Valley Wheelchair Sports Club hosted an Island Skills Day at the Comox Community Centre on January 24. The club invited other island clubs including Mid-Island and Victoria. BCWBS Regional and High Performance Coach Simon Cass was also invited to run the skills sessions.
20 plus players gathered at the event to learn and work on the fundamental skills. In the afternoon, a few fun games were played where the players tried using those skills.
The Comox club presented, at the lunch time, a beautiful painting to Karin Kratz, the former president of the Comox club to recognize her contribution since the club’s inception. After the presentation, Pizza lunch supported by a local Boston Pizza was provided to all the participants. It was a great time for everyone to get to know each other and learn about other clubs on the island.
Makiko Harada, BCWBS Manager of Program Development, said “it was so nice to meet players on the island and see lots of people with a wide range of abilties, levels, and ages enjoying our sport. We truly appreciate our club members’ hard work to run programs in region and put an effort to organize events like this. I’m very excited for the island’s future!”
Everyone had a blast thanks to all the Comox club members that pitched in to organize this event. Three island club reps promised to do this again and also get together more often for games in the future.
