On May 19th, 2016 - BC Wheelchair Basketball Society will host its biggest fundraiser, Hoopfest, at the Richmond Olympic Oval. This fun wheelchair basketball tournament will feature teams from corporate and community organizations.
Teams have spent the past several months raising money and awareness for wheelchair basketball across the Lower Mainland, and have accumulated $19,000 in donations to date, with the goal of reaching $25,000 by the end of Thursday night.
“We can do so much with $25,000,” noted BC Wheelchair Basketball Executive Director Sian Blyth. “These funds will help us enrich the lives of wheelchair basketball players across the province.”
One of the teams, ‘BCWBS Friends and Family’ will be comprised of BC Wheelchair Basketball athletes and Gordon Hogg, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Sport to the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. They’ll be looking to try and beat last year’s winners, the Burnaby Firefighters.
Fans, family, and friends are welcome to watch the lively tournament from the stands of the Richmond Oval for free. They’ll be encouraged to participate in the tournament raffle and 50/50 draw.
