Kamloops Tournament Results

February 4, 2011

The Canada Games team was back in action this past weekend in Kamloops, competing against three other BC –CWBL Division II teams: the Breakers, Kamloops and Kelowna. It was a hard fought tournament for all teams, resulting in some close, competitive games. Kudos to the Kamloops folks for the great organization!

The Games team finished an even .500 for the weekend, losing a nail biter to the hometown Kamloops Bulldawgs on a buzzer beater. (Nice shot Dan!) And before we talk about the greatness of the ‘dawgs, we’d like to sincerely thank all the Division II teams and athletes for helping prepare our junior team for Canada Games this year. The competition has been greatly appreciated, and we hope to represent you all well next week in Halifax!

The Bulldawgs won the tournament out, losing only one game to the Games team while the Breakers also finished at .500 for their four games. Kudos go out to multi-tasking Makiko Harada for coaching, playing and helping organize, and to birthday girl Shira Standfield for her stellar performance under pressure. The Games team is already looking forward to a rematch at finals…

Kelowna not only brought out some new players, but also played some tough games, coming out winless for the weekend. Watch out for them as they start to make their run to the title game. Led by Division I players Bryan Shore and Matt ‘cello’ Ficocelli, they will be sure to take it at the rest of the Division at Finals.

BC – CWBL Division II Finals will be hosted by Douglas College on the March 5/6 weekend. See you all there!
