Ministers and MLAs Try Wheelchair Basketball in Prince George

January 20, 2015

Minister Coralee Oakes, Minister Shirley Bond and Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris, along with several of their colleagues, had an opportunity to experience wheelchair basketball in Prince George today.

Team BC athletes from Prince George – Avril Harris and Joel Ewert – along with some of the region’s future wheelchair sports stars demonstrated wheelchair basketball at the Charles Jago Northern Sports Center in front of a crowd that included several MLAs and members of the media. Attendees then had the opportunity to try the sport.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society and BC Wheelchair Sports Association thanks the Government of BC for their support of wheelchair basketball. We would also like to thank the Northern Sport Center and PacificSport Northern BC for hosting the event. BCWSA and BCWBS are also grateful to local champion Nancy Harris for her incredible work promoting wheelchair basketball and wheelchair sports in the North.

Prince George will be the site of the 2015 Canada Winter Games from Feb. 13th – March 1st.
