On Sunday, our small-but-mighty BC Wheelchair Basketball Society team participated in the Scotiabank Half Marathon and 5k to raise money for our organization. It was an amazing event that we were proud to be a part of.
Congratulations to:
- Executive Director Sian Blyth: She ran the half marathon in 2:12 and was 84th in her age category. Amazing!
- President Fannie Smith: Fannie ran her first half marathon in 2:21. We're so proud of her committment to training and her willingness to take a leap and try a completely new event.
- Communications and Marketing Manager Arley McNeney: Arley fulfilled her goal of walking the half marathon in under 3 hours. She finished in 2:52, spurred on at the end by Fannie and Sian, who waited to finish with her!
- Treasurer Lynn Matson: Lynn and her daughter Jenna ran the 5k together. What a great mother-daughter bonding experience!
- High Performance Director Marni Abbott-Peter: Marni wheeled the 5k and raised nearly $900 for wheelchair basketball!
- Sheryll & Ben Hagkull: This amazing mother-son duo came on at the last minute to do the 5k. They showed amazing enthusiasm and we're grateful that they gave back to the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society community!
So far, we've raised $3,590! All of the money raised will go to purchasing equipment and ensuring that all British Columbians with a disability can experience the life-changing benefits of wheelchair basketball participation. We're so grateful for your donations. If you would like to cheer on our Scotiabank team by making a last-minute donation, please click here.
