(May 13, 2013 - TORONTO, ONT.) - Wheelchair basketball was in the spotlight at the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s (CPC) 2013 Hall of Fame and Sport Awards Ceremony Friday May 10th at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Hot on the heels of their London 2012 gold medal performance, the Canadian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team took home honours for Best Team Performance, while star player Patrick Anderson (Fergus, Ont.) was named Best Male Athlete, and head coach Jerry Tonello (Toronto, Ont.), who led the team to spotless 8-0 record, received the Tim Frick Paralympic Coach Excellence Award; on the same night that former Women’s National Team head coach Tim Frick (Pender Island, B.C.) and three-time Paralympic gold medallist Jennifer Krempien (Richmond, B.C., original from St. Albert, Alta.) were inducted into the Canadian Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame.

Another successful Tim Frick Wheelchair Basketball City League season wrapped up on March 17th. This season offered the 22 participants a new format: one hour of 3-on-3 scrimmage games with referees, then the option to take part in either a 45-minute skill session, or to continue scrimmaging.

The BC Warriors went undefeated over the weekend to win the 2013 Junior West Regional Championship in Prince George, BC. The Warriors defeated Saskatchewan-A 21-18 in the gold medal contest to put the finishing touches on a perfect 8-0 record at the tournament.

(MARCH 18, 2013 - MEXICO CITY, MEX.) - Team Canada defeated host Mexico 74-67 in a hotly contested gold medal showdown on Saturday at the Men's U23 Americas Zone Qualification Tournament in Mexico City. Both teams have qualified for the World Junior Championship in Turkey in September.

March 9th and 10th saw an exciting weekend in wheelchair basketball action! BC Wheelchair Basketball hosted the Breakers Women’s Festival at Douglas College New Westminster and Trinity Western University in Langley.

The fifth annual Jam is an opportunity for wheelchair basketball players to get together for action packed non-traditional basketball games. It brings together all abilities in a fun atmosphere where players will be shuffled onto different teams each game, thus allowing everyone the opportunity to play with new teammates all weekend long. The Jam aims to host players from BC, Alberta, and the USA and provides refereed games which are ideal for all skill levels. A BBQ lunch will be held on Saturday with a social gathering later in the evening.

The last regular season Division 2 tournament was held in Kelowna on January 26 & 27. The weekend was a very competitive weekend for Tacoma, Kamloops and the Cable Cars with Kamloops struggling on day one but dominating on day two!

(Ottawa, ON) – Wheelchair Basketball Canada congratulates members of the London 2012 gold medal winning Canadian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team recognized with four awards at the 2012 Canadian Wheelchair Sport Association (CWSA) Awards including Team of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Athlete with Fair Play and Dedication to Excellence.

Last weekend, November 10/11 marked the 13th annual Junior Challenge at McRoberts Secondary in Richmond. Junior athletes from all over BC came out to show their skills on the court.

Kamloops Bull-Dawgs hosted the first Division 2 tournament of the 2012-13 season on October 27/28 at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops. Four teams attended the tournament: Victoria, Kamloops Bull-Dawgs, Okanagan Thunder, and the Gold Rush (BC Juniors). Last year's Champions Victoria has lost two key players Jessica and Jon Vliegenthart this season. However, with a couple of young upcoming athletes, they showed that they are still one of the best teams in the league by winning all four games on the weekend. It was great to see all the teams had some young/new talented athletes contributng in the games.
