BC Teams To Compete at Nationals in Montreal This Weekend

BC Men's and Women's (BC Breakers) teams are heading to Montreal this Thursday to compete in the national wheelchair basketball championships/CWBL Women’s National Championships on May 13-15.

2011 NATIONAL WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO GREATER MONTREAL MAY 13-15, 2011

L’Association québécoise des sports en fauteuil roulant (AQSFR) and Wheelchair Basketball Canada to host 2011 National Championships at the Collège Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, QC

Longueuil, QC – Canada’s top wheelchair basketball players will be at the Collège Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, QC for the 2011 National Championships May 13-15, 2011. Media and spectators have the opportunity to see up-close the skill and athleticism that make the sport one of the premium draws at the Paralympic Games as provincial teams compete to determine a National Champion.

The tournament is being held in conjunction with the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Women’s National Championships - where the best female club teams in the country will also compete to decide a National Champion.

TV/Photo Op: 2 courts featuring a total of 27 games over three days
• Canadian Sr. & Jr. National Team athletes competing in domestic competition prior to major international events
• Pre- and post-game athlete/coach interviews available throughout tournament

When: Friday May 13 – Sunday May 15, 2011
• Opening tip-off - Friday May 13th at 9:00 EDT
• Championship Game - Sunday May 15th at 12:00 EDT (Men) & Sunday May 15th at 13:45 EDT (Women)
• Medal Ceremonies - Sunday May 15th at approximately 15:00 EDT

The tournament features elite players from across Canada including members of the Canadian Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s, and Under-25 Women’s National Teams.

Both Senior National Teams are preparing to embark on the road to the 2012 Paralympic Games. They will compete at the 2011 Parapan American Games (November 12-20) in Guadalajara, Mexico, which double as the qualification tournament for London 2012.

The Women’s U25 National Team is preparing to host the world at the first-ever Women’s U25 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships (July 15-21, 2011) in St. Catharines, ON.
