The 18th annual Hoopfest was held at the Cambie Secondary School last weekend (April 16) and was a huge success! Thank-you to everyone who supported the event this year!
There were 8 teams competing in this year’s Hoopfest with teams from Burnaby Fire, ICORD, The Rick Hansen Institute, Surrey Fire, Vancouver Fire, Vancouver Police Department, Delta Fire and WestJet.
The competition was fierce on the day with a good mixture of veteran players who have been competing at Hoopfest for years and people new to the sport. Burnaby Fire have been playing this game a long time and managed to take the title of first place with a comfortable win over the Vancouver Fire to take home their 5th Hoopfest title in 5 years! Congratulations Burnaby!
Winning Team Burnaby Fire
By the end of the day there was a lot more tape visible than skin on most hands around the gym, but lots of smiles on faces despite the blisters! BCWBS would like to thank everyone who competed in the event and especially to the volunteers from Cambie Secondary School and the members of BC Wheelchair Basketball who helped out on the day with officiating and coaching.
Hoopfest is designed to raise money to support wheelchair basketball programs throughout the province and we have managed to raise $8,500!
More photos from the weekend can be found at our facebook page.
