Division ONE 2010-11 draft completed & teams ANNOUNCED!

October 27, 2010

Division I is set to see some hot competition this season with just two teams competing to be the best in B.C !!

Coach Cheryl Corrigan and Joe Higgins along with the Division I Commissioner, Carrie Linegar sat down on September 29 to build their respective teams in the 2010-11 Div I draft. “The draft is a great idea; it’s an awesome way to put your team together. Unfortunately I didn’t get all the players that I wanted but we are going to be a very strong team” Higgins said.

Higgins is the head coach of the Douglas College Lions and was fortunate enough to secure two national team players in Ross McDonald and Bo Hedges and Paralympian Shira Standfield. Corrigan is not without her fair share of high caliber players on the Douglas College Royals including Paralympians Jaimie Borisoff and Jessica Vliegenthart. “We don’t have as many veteran players as Joe does this year; it’s going to be a great opportunity for our younger players to step up.” Cheryl Corrigan said. Royals players Makiko Harada and Kevin Bowie are excited about the season and expecting a very high level of competition from both teams.

It’s unfortunate that there are only two teams this season but with so many BC players having amazing opportunities to play overseas in Europe and the States there were simply not the numbers to have a third team. However the decrease in numbers does not mean there will be a decrease in the level of competition. 18 strong players were picked up in the draft and it is looking like it’s going to be an exciting season in Division ONE!

The dates for the 2010-11 season are set:

  • Nov 5–7: Douglas College New West – 2 games in conjunction with HP Camp
  • Nov 26-28: Trinity Western University – 2 games in conjunction with D2 tourney
