The 4th annual Kelowna Jamboree was hosted by Okanagan Thunder Wheelchair Basketball Club at Kelowna Secondary School on April 14 & 15.
13 players from Calgary flew into Kelowna for the weekend with some of them hitting the slopes of Big White for the last open week of skiing. Spokane, Seattle, Kamloops, Greater Vancouver and Kelowna were represented with players split onto teams throughout the two days. Mixing up the players on the teams every game gave everyone a chance to play.
Every player played four games Saturday and participated in an ultimate Frisbee game at lunch. A barbeque was set up at the end of the day and hospitality suite at the hotel in the evening. Martin from Calgary showed some video from the slopes of Greg and Dom.
The media also came out on Sunday and interviewed Martin, Diane (from Calgary), Kevin, Jack, (from Lower Mainland), Paul (from Kelowna) and Joe making a nice piece on CHBC TV.
Jambalaya on Sunday was a fast paced five game tournament where five teams were created and they did a little ‘mini tournament’ of 13 minute games. Team 2 with Matt, Amanda, Pat, Stuart, Stu, Alec and Leanne won all four games they played but Team 4 was ever so close with Will, Matt, Kevin, Mitch, Gary, Riley and Audrey.
Thank you to all the athletes that traveled to Kelowna and made the event another big success. Our thanks also goes to Okanagan Thunder for hosting this great event this year again.
