The Tim Frick Family and Friends Fun Night was a huge success!! Over seventy people participated in the event that was held at Douglas College in New Westminster on November 9. Members of the City League brought out their friends and family to try wheelchair basketball often for the first time.
There were smiles all round as the current city leaguers helped their family and friends to learn the basics, often with limited success at first, but everyone had a good time. There were four half court games going on at once to try and get as many people involved as possible and then there was a chance for all the newbies to go full court against each other while the people from city league cheered them on from the sidelines.
Some of our High Performance players pitched in as well by giving the particiopants advice and sometimes playing with them. They also showcased their high level skills at the end of the event.
City League Coach Joe Higgins was very impressed with the turn out. “It was so many more people than I anticipated. It’s just great, everyone is here and having a great time ... you love wheelchair basketball and it loves you back, and sharing this is what it’s all about.”
As a result places are filling fast for the winter session of the Tim Frick City League, it is great to see such a great turn out for people to share their love of wheelchair basketball. Congratulations to Crystal, Paul, and Katie for bringing out so many people!!
