Tim Frick Fall City Leauge Finale

November 19, 2011

Tim Frick Fall City League had a finale last Tuesday on November 15.
Here is a report from one of the City Leaguers.

*************
For most of my life, I have been on the outside looking in. I was an outsider or an outcast you could say because I was different. I began City League thinking that this feeling would only continue and that I would feel inexperienced and slow others down. Instead they all welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I had somewhere to belong for the first time. That was 10 months ago; City League has become my second family. Every accomplishment I make, they celebrate it with me. Even the smallest things like making a shot you didn’t expect to get in; they make you feel as though you made that shot from half court.

We have become a big family made of people that are all ages, all sizes, with different strengths and abilities. Every week we play, improve and learn together. Not only do you get the fun of playing games against friends and in some cases family but you learn a ton of new skills that you may not have known existed.

This fall season was absolutely fantastic. I worked on my skills and improved a lot since 10 months ago. Skill sessions may only be 15 minutes but you sure can learn a lot in 15 minutes. Not to mention other players, new and returning, have improved so much and it is such a pleasure to see and experience. It’s even more rewarding when you realize that all your hard work pays off when you perfect those shots, passes and chair skills that you had been working so hard all season to master.

We really do welcome anyone and everyone to come join City League. It’s an experience that you really can’t miss. Excellent coaching, meet fantastic people and an oppourtunity to play a sport you like. Come out and give it a try, believe me you will not regret it!

The final night included the semi finals and championship game in which Team D claimed their title!

Coach Alrey announced quite a few awards while Thank-You cards were presented to coaches as well as to a league regular referee Conston by the city leaguers. Some of the young athletes also suprised Coach Arley by celebrating her birthday with two huge cakes!

We would like to thank Arley and Brian for their hard work and to all the referees; Conston, Rita, Fred, and Milan; for their help! Big thanks go to Douglas College and Rotary Club of New Westminster for their generaous support.

Registration for the winter city league is open now. The detail can be found here.
