BCWBS Congratulates Amanda Yan on Winning the Wheelchair Basketball Canada True Sport Award

(Vancouver, BC) -BC Wheelchair Basketball Society congratulates Burnaby's Amanda Yan on winning the prestigious Wheelchair Basketball Canada True Sport award, which is given annually to an elite athlete with a commitment to fair play and inclusion. This is the second major award that Yan has won in the past month. In March, she was named BC Wheelchair Basketball Society's Female Athlete of the Year.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society congratulates Amanda Yan, who was named to the CIBC Team Next Program along with 66 other Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls. She will receive from CIBC $15,000 in funding over three years as well as invaluable life skills and sport mentorship from eight of our nation’s finest high performance athletes. Junior athletes from across the province gained valuable skills and had fun at the 2013 Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge. The weekend event offered skill-development and a round-robin-style tournament for athletes aged 8 to 25. This year, Junior Challenge also served as the selection camp for the 2014 BC Winter Games, which will take place in Mission this February.

BCWBS To Host 2014 Women's Wheelchair Basketball National Championships

(Vancouver, BC) – BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is proud to announce that it will be hosting the 2014 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball National Championships from April 25-27. This is the first time in the sport’s history that the women’s wheelchair basketball national championship has been held independently of the men’s event.
