Register Now For the New Richmond Wheelchair Basketball Program

BCWBS is excited to announce that a new pilot wheelchair basketball program will be launching in Richmond starting November 6th. The six-week program, coached by Joe Higgins and Arley McNeney, will be aimed at beginners and intermediate players over age 13. The session will offer a one-hour skill session, plus a half-hour scrimmage, and will be focused on giving athletes the skills needed to take their game to the next level.

Gold Rush Shine At Kamloops Division Two Tournament

A report from the Langley Gold Rush: The BC Gold Rush went undefeated in the recent Div 2 Tournament held in Kamloops on the October 5th and 6th weekend. The Gold Rush played hard and had a few close games but were able to stay ahead of the pack for the entire tournament. The hosting Kamloops team had a great tournament as well, coming in 2nd with 3 close wins and 1 loss to the champs.The tournament was a great success and lots of fun, and we thank Kamloops for hosting us all!

BC Hosts First Western Conference Tournament

This weekend, BC hosted the first Western Conference League tournament this weekend at Trinity Western University in Langley. Teams from Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatchewan visited to compete against two BC teams. BC 2 finished the tournament 3-1 and BC 1 went 1-3.

BC To Take Part in Wheelchair Basketball Western Conference League

Local wheelchair basketball players are about to have more competitive opportunities, thanks to BC's entry into the Western Conference League. Select BC teams will be competing in the inter-provincial league, which also includes teams from Alberta and Saskatchewan. BC teams will be travelling to Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatchewan through the season and will be competing at the Open Finals in Spring.

Bring Your Little Ghosts and Goblins To Let's Play's Halloween Day!

Calling all little ghosts and goblins! Bring your friends, family and siblings and get ready for some spooky fun at the Let's Play Halloween Play Date. The Let's Play Program is hosting a Halloween fun day for children with disabilities under 8 and their friends, family and siblings. (Older kids are welcome if they would be a good fit for the program). Able-bodied friends and siblings are welcome to hop in wheelchairs and play along. There will be fun activities, games, and even prizes for the best costume.

Kids With Disabilities Shine At Let's Play Day

It may have been a rainy Sunday afternoon outside, but the children with disabilities and their siblings, family and support workers lit up the Mount Pleasant Community Center with their enthusiasm. Kids between age 3 and 12 had a chance to try a variety of wheelchair sports, including boccia, tag, floor hockey, relay races and much more. Parents and siblings even hopped in their chairs to join in the fun.

Kamloops Adapted Sports Associaton (KASA) Announces Its Official Launch

Kamloops, BC – Kamloops Adapted Sports Association (KASA) is thrilled to announce its official launch, Saturday October 5th 6-8:30pm on court at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC) in Kamloops. KASA will be showcasing its three sport offerings: wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis and handcycling. Joining KASA that evening will be BC Wheelchair Sports, BC Wheelchair Basketball and Adapted Sports Sun Peaks. All together, seven different adapted sports will be showcased.

Let's Play is a program that provides kids with disabilities with sports wheelchairs and works with families and schools to help children experience the fun and fitness of physical activity. Even if your child does not use a wheelchair, he or she can still benefit from the freedom of mobility that a sports wheelchair can bring.

BCWBS Launches Fun Minimal Disability Recruitment Video

If you play wheelchair basketball, you know that many participants are able-bodied or have minimal disabilities that allow them to walk. In fact, 40% of Canadian wheelchair basketball players are able-bodied or minimally disabled. To spread this message, BC Wheelchair Basketball Society teamed up with BC Wheelchair Sports Association and the Bridging the Gap Program to create this fun video. City of Surrey To Launch New Wheelchair Basketball Junior Program

The City of Surrey and BC Wheelchair Basketball Society will be launching a new junior wheelchair basketball program at the Cloverdale Recreation Centre this Fall. The program is open to kids aged 8 - 18 years old of all experience levels and abilities and will run from on Tuesdays from October 1st to November 19th. Participants will learn the basics of wheelchair basketball through fun games and drills.

5th Annual Kelowna Jam Offered Another Fun Filled Weekend

The 5th Annual Wheelchair basketball Jam in Kelowna was a big success again. Participants came from Seattle, Spokane, Calgary, Vancouver, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Vernon and Kelowna. Every participant was schedule to play every game, rotating through different team members. Some of the junior members learned veteran tricks from the likes of Richard Peters, Bryan Shore and Marni Abbott-Peter.
