(April 13, 2013 - MONTREAL, Que.) - Wheelchair Basketball Canada proudly announced the names of its major award winners and inducted the Canadian Men’s London 2012 Paralympic Team into the Hall of Fame Saturday evening at its 2013 annual awards banquet as part of the festivities of the 2013 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Open Championship in Montreal, Que.

Come to Cloverdale and try Wheelchair Basketball! The program offered by BC Wheelchair Basketball and the City of Surrey includes fun activities designed for participants with disabilities including spinal cord injury, spina bifida, CP, amputee, etc. and without disabilities! Sport wheelchairs will be provided to those that require them.

"On Saturday March 30th, many young athletes took to the court to demonstrate their skills. The Steve Nash Youth Challenge held at the Langley Events Centre offered a chance for young athletes to show their basketball and leadership skills with a 3 on 3 format. It was also a great experience for some of the Basketball BC athletes to try out Wheelchair Basketball for the first time.

This Saturday, we celebrated the achievements of our members at our annual awards night. The banquet took place at the Executive Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Coquitlam, and was hosted by BCWBS provincial coach Marni Abbott-Peter.A large congratulations to our winners.

On the weekend, Feb 23 and 24, a team from Seattle and a team "BC Selects" consisted of Paralympic Gold medalists Richard Peter and James Treuer and our young rising stars played against our Division 1 teams Douglas College Royals and Douglas College Lions.

Fun and skill development were the two goals of this Sunday’s (Feb 17) wheelchair basketball clinic in beautiful Comox. I had the pleasure of heading to Vancouver Island to work with ten very enthusiastic athletes.

BCWBS is excited to host the BC-CWBL Provincial Finals 2013 at Pinetree Community Centre in Coquitlam on March 1-3. Six Division 2 teams and two Division 1 teams will be competing for respective provincial title.

In February and March, viaSport will be opening a number of grant programs that will encourage sport participation across the province. Funding will be available for new and exisiting sport programs, communtities in northern BC, Aboriginal sport programs and provincial to international events hosted in BC.

The Canadian Active After School Partnership wants to better understand how children between 5 and 17 years of age spend their time after school in the 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm time period. It would be very helpful to us if parents and caregivers complete this 10 minute survey to help us learn more about this topic. We want to know how children spend their time after school; what parents think about after school programs that their children are now in; and what children who are not in after school programming do during this time period.

Santa and the Let’s Play crew visited Sunny Hill and participated in an afternoon of fun games including modified versions of baseball, basketball, rugby and hockey. Laughter and carols echoed in the hospital halls as the children, parents and therapists played. Let’s Play in partnership with BC Wheelchair Sports Association is planning on providing a regular program at Sunny Hill for in-patients and age appropriate community members.
