Registration is now open for the Kelowna Jamboree. The 7th annual Jam is an opportunity for high performance and recreationally competitive players with and without disability to get together and play some basketball. The tournament will host players from BC, Alberta and the USA in fun games to play together. It’s ideal for people of all levels of play. Players will be shuffled onto different team combinations so as to allow everyone to have a chance to play with new people for each game. Games will be running time with a short break at half time, and there will be hockey subs to keep the game moving and add a fun element. A social event/BBQ is also included.

BCWBS and Douglas College hosted the BC Breakers Wheelchair Basketball Festival on March 21/22 at Douglas College in New Westminster. BC Breakers played games against the Calgary Rollers and Edmonton Inferno women’s clubs from Alberta in preparation for women’s nationals in April. 22 players from BC and two women’s clubs from Alberta attended the festival along with 8 coaches and several volunteers.

BCWBS is hosting the BC Breakers Festival at Douglas College in New Westminster on March 21/22. The event is open to all girls and women, able bodied or with a physical disability, including new players and first timers.

The last season’s Division 2 Champions, Vancouver Cable Cars defended their provincial title this season, beating the Classics 82-74, in a hard fought championship match last Sunday (March 8.)

Come out and watch the 2015 BC-CWBL Finals this weekend! There are 7 teams attending including some athletes that were recently up in Prince George representing Team BC at the Canada Games. It will be a great weekend of high performance wheelchair basketball and we would love to see some fans cheering on the many teams from all over BC! We would like to thank Hosting BC, the Province of BC and ViaSport for their support of this event.

Last Saturday (Feb 28), BC Wheelchair Basketball hosted a women’s skills day at the Royal Oak Middle School in Saanich. 17 female athletes including new and veteran players attended this camp to work on their individual skills and enjoy the game experience.

Team BC refocused and came back strong to beat Nova Scotia 53-38 at the 2015 Canada Winter Games! We're now in consolation round action, so we'll be playing against New Brunswick tomorrow at 1 pm. If we win, we'll likely finish in sixth place.

Today didn't give us the result we wanted, but Team BC has a chance to finish on a high note at the 2015 Canada Winter Games tomorrow in the consolation round. We went down 62-24 against Ontario today to finish off the round robin and will now play against Nova Scotia tomorrow at 1 pm.

Team BC faced the #1-ranked junior wheelchair basketball team in the country today at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Despite a valiant effort and the cheers of the sold-out crowd, Team BC fell 76-37 to Saskatchewan. The team will face Ontario tomorrow at 5 pm.

After a commanding 61 - 29 win against Manitoba, Team BC fell to Prince Edward Island 60-54 in the first day of wheelchair basketball competition at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

Vernon Wheelchair Basketball Club hosted a Community Challenge game at Hillview Elementary school last Thursday evening (Feb 5), with students playing parents. Over 40 people enjoyed trying wheelchair basketball.

(Burnaby, BC) – With less than three weeks to go until the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Team BC will host Ontario and Alberta in a friendly wheelchair basketball tournament at the Fortius Sport and Health Center this weekend. Athletes and coaching staff will be available to the media before and after games.

Comox Valley Wheelchair Sports Club hosted an Island Skills Day at the Comox Community Centre on January 24. The club invited other island clubs including Mid-Island and Victoria. BCWBS Regional and High Performance Coach Simon Cass was also invited to run the skills sessions.

(Vancouver, BC) – Janet McLachlan (West Vancouver, BC) has become the first Paralympian to be a finalist for the Sport BC Athlete of the Year awards in the Senior Female Athlete category. McLachlan earned the honour for leading the Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball to team to gold on home soil at the 2014 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships.

The group includes several athletes who will be competing at the 2015 Canada Winter Games next month in Prince George.

What: More than 25 junior wheelchair basketball athletes from across British Columbia will compete in the 2015 Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge at the Fortius Sport and Health Center from Jan. 17th – 18th.
