Whether you want to run the 5k or the half marathon, you'll have fun while giving back to the wheelchair basketball community. All money raised will go towards replacing the aging wheelchairs in our wheelchair loan program.

Today, BC Wheelchair Basketball Society announced that it received a $10,000 RBC Learn to Play Project grant for its Let's Play Program, which helps children with physical disabilities under 13 get active in their homes, schools and on playgrounds. BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is one of 199 organizations from across the country to receive a 2015 RBC Learn to Play Project grant.

Junior wheelchair basketball players from across BC had fun and learned new skills at the 2015 Junior Wheelchair Basketball Challenge in Abbotsford this weekend. Twenty-five athletes from age 11 - 19 came out to W.J. Mouat Secondary School for two days of games, drills, and skill sessions. The event also served as a selection camp for several zones at the BC Winter Games and a training event for coaches applying for their NCCP certification.

Calling all wheelchair basketball fans from 12 to 21! There are still a few spots available at this year's Junior Challenge, which will take place at WJ Mouat Secondary School in Abbotsford from Nov. 21-22. Come out and learn some new skills, meet friends and play fun games. Players of all skill levels are welcome, since athletes will be grouped according to their experience level. We can also provide you with a sports wheelchair if you do not have one.

Congratulations to our new provincial coach, Simon Cass, who has been promoted from his previous role as the regional coach. Makiko Harada will take on the regional coaching duties in addition to her position as our Manager of Program Development.

Congratulations to Team Canada! Our women’s wheelchair basketball team is undefeated in the tournament and most recently beat Mexico yesterday afternoon. The victory ensured Team Canada will appear at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society and Chilliwack Wheelchair Sports Club are grateful for the support of the Chilliwack Foundation. Thanks to the Chilliwack Foundation’s generous sponsorship, our organization will be able to purchase two sports wheelchairs, which will be used in the club’s wheelchair basketball program and in school demos around the area.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is grateful to be a recipient of a BC Rehab Foundation grant. The BC Rehab Foundations provides support to projects that encourage barrier-free communities. The grant will be used to purchase two wheelchair basketball wheelchairs, which will be used in community programs and events.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society is looking for coaches, team managers and adult supervisors for the BC Winter Games, which will take place in Penticton from Feb. 25 - 28. The BC Winter Games introduces junior wheelchair basketball players to the excitement of a multi-sport competition environment. Many Paralympians and high-performance wheelchair basketball players have said that attending the BC Games sparked their desire to become an elite athlete. Let's help create the next generation of wheelchair basketball stars by making this year's BC Games the best one yet.

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society congratulates both the men's and the women's national teams for qualifying for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games based on their successful performance at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games. Three BC athletes -- Deion Green, Bo Hedges and Janet McLachlan -- competed.

The womens team blew by future Olympic host nation Brazil today 82-51. They mounted a 37-4 lead in the first quarter, and Brazil was never able to recover. BC player Janet McLaughlin played an impressive 28:10, and led team scoring with 28 points.

The athletes will be competing in athletics, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.
