BCWBS is pleased to announce this year’s Men's and Women's Provincial Teams. The teams will represent BC at the 2011 National Wheelchair Basketball Championships (Men) and CWBL Women’s Championships in Longueuil, QC on the May 13 – 15 weekend. Both teams are entering the tournaments as a defending champion from 2010 Nationals.

The inaugural All-Comers Wheelchair Basketball Festival was held on Saturday, March 11, 2011 with over 24 participants attending the afternoon event at Douglas College. A mix of both veteran and new athletes came out to the event which saw seven first time participants to the sport of wheelchair basketball.

This year’s BC Provincial Junior team finished up their competitive season this past weekend with a sixth place finish at the BC-CWBL Division Two Finals. This finish followed closely on the heels of a great seventh place finish at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax in February.

Over 40 participants enjoyed two days of wheelchair basketball at the PISE in Victoria. Representatives from the BC Breakers, the Be Squad, Nanaimo, and the Fraser Valley all came to the Island to take part in mixture of skills and games led by Joe Higgins and guest coaches from Seattle.

In the spirit of March Madness, wheelchair basketball players from across BC took to the courts at Douglas College to participate in the BC Provincial Wheelchair Basketball Championships. BC Wheelchair Basketball is very appreciative of the support from the Province of BC - Hosting BC program, Douglas College, Subway, Panago Pizza and Advanced Mobility for their conribution to the hosting of this event.

Two teams participated in the 2010-11 BC-CWBL Season - the Douglas College Royals lead by Coach Cheryl Corrigan and the Douglas College Lions headed up by Coach Joe Higgins. After a great season of play, where all games counted in the standings for the season, the Douglas College Lions took the top spot in Division 1 and will enter the 2011 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League Finals as the No. 1 seed.

(Ottawa, ON) – Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to announce the names of the 12 female athletes who will represent Canada at the 2011 Parapan American Games slotted for November 12-20, 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Parapan American Games double as Canada’s opportunity to qualify for the 2012 London Paralympics, where the team is looking for their fifth podium finish in thelast six competitions.

On February 5th, the BC Wheelchair Sports Association turned 40! To celebrate, BCWSA has launched an online campaign to reflect back on the achievements of the past 40 years.

BC-CWBL Division I teams play against each other as well as agaist a team from Calgary this weekend at Trinity Western University in Langley. Each team will play four games over the weekend (6 games overall).

The Canada Games team was back in action this past weekend in Kamloops, competing against three other BC –CWBL Division II teams: the Breakers, Kamloops and Kelowna. It was a hard fought tournament for all teams, resulting in some close, competitive games. Kudos to the Kamloops folks for the great organization!
